Why Start Premarital Counseling?
Getting married is a big step and you are ready for the commitment. As we know marriage is a beautiful thing but not all marriages live happily ever after and that is where divorce comes in. Investing in premarital counseling is a great way to support your marriage's future. Media myths and popular culture fuel unrealistic expectations about marriage, which most couples are unaware of. Some people think marriage will be a walk in the park and are married and divorced within 5 years. Some people lacked a strong foundation growing up and did not have parents that displayed healthy marriages. Without knowing it may repeat some of the patterns they were exposed to. Premarital counseling would address your upbringing and address potential concerns about unhealthy habits showing up in the marriage.
What Working with a Marriage Counselor Teaches You:
-
It's not me against you. It's you and I against the problem.
-
Choosing to be honest with each over resentment
-
Choosing a partner whose flaws you can live with
-
Have values and boundaries and stick to them even in marriage
These are just some of the few things a marriage counselor can teach you in premarital counseling. We help you address conflict, communication, acceptance each others differences, and recognize each others strengths.

Facts to know before marriage--By a marriage counselor
-
A relationship goes through stages:
In the first stage of a relationship, it’s usually easy and exciting. It is easy to get along and you are head over heels for each other. In the second stage, it is inevitable for couples to go through a period of conflict and disagreement. The more prepared you are as a couple the easier it is to navigate this phase.
-
A successful relationship requires certain skills and dedication:
You know that there is no magic formula for instant connection, relationships take work. A successful relationship is something that you do, not something that you have and most couples need to learn the tools to make it happen.
-
You have to be aligned around important life values:
Love is not always enough as much as we would like to think so. Each one of us has certain values and expectations from our relationship that are absolutely important to us. For a successful future, couples need to have the same core values and vision of the future.
